What do effects do? How do I make my guitar sound better? How do pedals work?

This workshop is for anyone who is interested in learning more about pedals and guitar tone. It is aimed at beginners, very little guitar skill, if any, is required, but don't be put off if you've been playing guitar for a while and just want to learn more, or if you've only ever tried guitar once! We particularly welcome people from disadvantaged groups including women, LGBTQ+ people, and POC.

This is a chance to learn about guitar effects in a friendly and non-macho environment, with no judgement!

Things we will cover:
• Setting up pedals and making them work – the basics
• What pedals exist, what sounds can be made?
• Making cool sounds and experimenting
• Creating your own unique sound
• Recreating famous tones and exploring genres
• The basics of gigging with effects

Bring your enthusiasm, questions, and any instruments or pedals you already own or can borrow (basses also welcome). Don’t worry if you don’t have access to these already as loads of guitars, pedals, and amps will be available to experiment with.

The workshop will be run by Alex Hall and Tom Gilbert
